It is the "Ecology Flag" created by Look magazine in 1970. It incorporated the "ecology symbol" created the year before by Ron Cobb with a 'green' rendition of the U.S. flag. The ecology symbol was formed by taking the letters "e" and "o" -- from the words "environment" and "organism" -- and putting them in superposition, forming a variation of the Greek letter Theta. Theta is associated with the Greek word “thanatos” (death), so this symbol implies mankind’s threat to the environment. This ecology flag (there have been several) flew at the famous People’s Park incident at the University of California in Berkeley. The colors symbolized “the pure air and green land that was America once and that can be ours again if we take the action necessary to recover our heritage.”

Help me stay a medic at Occupy Wall Street
I have been working as a Blackheart Street Medic at Occupy Wall Street since October 1st, 2011. I have used up all my life savings in assisting injured, sick, homeless, and hungry people. I need your help to continue this important work. All donations will go to keep me working as a street medic in the Occupy movement. Thank you!
