Helicopter thunder breaks the calm
on Memorial Day, two-thousand nine.
Green hueys burst into view,
as heart pumps in chopper beats
and hands reach for shadows
of weapons and friends
lost forever
in the nights of
Viet Nam,
nineteen sixty-nine.
